The initial 'problem' you encounter is where to start. If, like me, you've never really had a burning ambition to do anything in particular, it's harde to know what to do next!

Whilst it's true that there are a plethora of texts out there all about identifying your true vocation, it still leaves the issue of what to do when you discover that you don't really have one! Suffice to say, I ended up in my current 'career' (I use the term pretty loosely as it seems to have been more of a job rather than anything else of late) laregly by default - and have stayed with it for best part of 20 years but feel it's time to change before (a) I'm too old (some seem to think I am already) and (b) my brain seizes up - through lack of being challenged.

So yesterday I sat down at the computer and started...but clearly lacking an action plan, I found that I moved from site to site, all open with possibilities. Rather than helping define what I want to do instead of teaching (yes, the box its nigh on impossible to get out of in most people's eyes!), it's made me even more unsure - there are so many possibilities...

Ok, I'm not immediately qualified according to the job description, but in terms of skills and abilities, there's scope. After all, teaching really is one of those careers where, whilst so many people think it's easy (it's not as easy as it looks; the days are a lot longer than they seem; and yes, we get the holidays but most of us work in them, blah, blah! I could go on here but won't.) it does include so many tasks and require so many skills and abilities, it's great. What's not so great is transforming all the teaching 'stuff' into something that the rest of the world of work seems as applicable to them.

Hey ho - that's the main challenge - along with attempting to jump ship duing a downturn in the economy (lots of good advice against that one).

So why the blog? Well, I can't believe that I'm the only person in this situation, and anyway, why not?!
